Product Overview
A chemically defined, animal component-free medium for CHO-S suspension culture and transient protein expression in batch and fed-batch processes.
Key Features
- •Chemically defined and animal component-free: no growth factors, hydrolysates, peptides, or animal-derived components
- •Standalone medium: compatible with suspension CHO-S cells and various transfection reagents including lipid-based reagents and PEI
- •CHO-K1 compatible: supports CHO-K1 protein expression
- •Rapid cell growth: doubling time ~20 hours, reaching peak VCD of ~20 × 10⁶ cells/mL with viability maintained greater than 90% throughout 7-day culture
- •Multi-format transient expression: evaluated across mAbs, antibody fragments, bispecific antibodies, and recombinant proteins
- •Head-to-head expression: ~430 mg/L mAb by day 7, more than 3x a commercially available medium with the same mAb and transfection reagents (Figure 3)
- •Ready to use: requires only 6 mM L-glutamine supplementation before culture
Applications
- •CHO-S suspension culture and transient protein expression
- •CHO-K1 transient protein expression
- •Monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, antibody fragments, and recombinant proteins

Performance Data
Growth and viability

Figure 1. Viable cell density (VCD)
CHO-S cultures reached a peak viable cell density of ~20 × 10⁶ cells/mL by Day 6. The 7-day profile reflects an estimated doubling time of ~20 hours during exponential growth.

Figure 2. Cell viability
Viability remained at or above 90% throughout the 7-day culture, maintained through peak cell density and into late culture.
Expression performance

Figure 3. mAb titer comparison
Rinova™ CD CHO-S achieved ~430 mg/L by Day 7, more than 3x Medium A* (~130 mg/L). Titers were higher at each measured time point in a standard head-to-head comparison without changes to the cell line or transfection reagents.

Figure 4. Multi-molecule expression comparison
Rinova™ CD CHO-S delivered comparable or higher titers across the five-molecule panel. The largest separation was observed for mAb 3, where Rinova™ CD CHO-S reached ~540 mg/L versus ~245 mg/L for Medium A.
Medium A refers to a commercially available chemically defined CHO expression medium used as a benchmark medium. Results were obtained under standard transient expression conditions. Competitor and benchmark media names are available upon request.
Performance data are provided for reference only. Results may vary by cell line, expression system, product type, culture conditions, transfection method, feed strategy, handling, and application.
